In 1964, when Dot was 8, the family moved to a house in Sutton in Surrey. Laura recalls them being thrilled to have their first proper house with a garden and loved sliding down the bannister and hiding in the cupboard under the stairs! Dot and her sister attended Ridge Road primary school. In those days they were called ‘latch-key kids’ as both their parents worked meaning at 7 and 8 years old, they would let themselves in at lunchtime and after school.
