Memories from Judy

Created by Tracy 3 years ago

From Judy, Mum's friend and sister-in-law from her marriage to Chris:

Chris introduced Dot to the family when she was about 14 and I was 16. If I remember correctly, Dot was a bit of a latter day mod/skinhead when skinheads were not violent and their heads were not shaved. She had short hair, and wore a Ben Sherman checked shirt, two-tone toned skirt and jacket suit and a crombie style coat with a red handkerchief in the top pocket, and doc martens boots.

I  remember we invited Dot to the New Years Eve Ball and she quietly said to me I don't have a ball dress and I loaned her one of my dresses.  Dot was my bridesmaid and we became good friends.

We had a hand in Dot and Chris' move to MK after they were married and we lived within walking distance of each other.  They were our best friends as well as brother and sister.  We would meet up every weekend for a walk or wonder around the garden centres.  And Dot and I would push our prams all the way into Bletchley to do our shopping in the week.  We had lunches together practising our cooking skills and the cousins played well together and became very close.  We babysat for each other.  We worked together from 6-10pm  in the evenings at Barclays Bank checking cheque books.  When I returned to work in the day Dot looked after the children.  Dot also looked after the children when I had my driving lessons and eventually passed my test; she was the first one to know and we jumped up and down with excitement.  We always kept in touch over the years and we would chat over the phone and whenever we met, for hours on end.  Dot was always interesting to talk to and very knowledgeable about sport, film stars and whatever else we could chat about...we were never short of conversation.  We also became good friends with Vic. Dot was very good with Mum and Dad and Wendy and they loved her very much.  As we all do... I will miss my sister and my friend very much.  💕
