A Very Special Sister
For many years we’ve shared our lives
One roof we once lived under
Sometimes we laughed, sometimes we cried
Through winter storms and thunder
The younger years have faded fast
We’ve gone our separate ways
But through all time our friendship lasts
Our bond in life remains
As summer brings the happy times
The autumn winds will whisper
A closer friend I’d never find
Than the one I call my sister

‘A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.’
To Dot, my darling sister, my best friend.
We were 2 little London girls growing up in the 50’s in that tiny house with a basement and outside loo, in Conderton Road, where we lived with our Mum and Dad and loving grandparents, Poppa and Auntie Pat.
Those were the days when we would play outside from dawn til dusk, with our friends, on the streets and on the bombsites, the neighbours keeping a watchful eye from their doorsteps.
I remember one day getting separated from you, I got lost, tottering around the block in our mum’s high-heels, crying my eyes out, feeling scared and alone. Then feeling a little hand grab mine and a familiar voice say ‘Come on, Laura, where have you been? We’ll be late for tea and Mummy will be cross’.
It was you, my big sister, come to find me. I felt safe again and protected. I was 3 and you were 4.
You held my hand back then Dot and all through our lives. I hope you know I am holding yours now.

It was a honour to be part of the beautiful celebration of Dot’s life, thank you Vic, Tracy and Paul. When ever I visited Mum and Dad in Milton Keynes I would see my siblings which included Dot, she was always a much loved member of our family and will be sadly missed Jenny ❤️
